FOOD BY THE FOOT FUNDRAISER

Hi: My name is Sandi Allen, and I am helping the Marion-Polk Food Share to raise money for food and seeds to help grow food for 2012 and beyond.

My idea came to me in a dream, where a person who loves to crochet had crocheted a chain and had people “pledge by the foot”. When I woke up, I realized that person was me. I wrote it all down and began contacting people.

As of this posting we are going to begin at the Food Share building itself on Monday, October 1st. I will be sitting in a rocker with a barrel to put the chain in, and another for food. Since people have told me I am “off my rocker” most of my life, I figured why not do something “in my rocker”?

When I am done with one venue, I  will go to my next and announce on this and their website where I will be.

Then, my next set up will be announced, and you can come and see me, pledge, donate money or food.

At the end of each day, I will post on both blogs the amount of feet I crocheted, the weight of the food, and the amount of money and pledges we collected.

My goal is to crochet 14,000 feet…or one foot for every child the Marion-Polk Food Share feeds each month. The cost for each foot is just $5.00 and you can pledge 1’ or 101’. Each foot you pledge for will feed two people for two days.

Local businesses have donated gift certificates or actual prizes to be raffled off to donors. I have chosen to ask only small local vendors who need our support and who are the most generous. Their names will be posted on both blogs as they sign up and this helps everyone.

You can also donate yarn at the Marion-Polk Food Share office or at each site when you come and cheer me on!

Once the chain is done, the yarn will be donated to local crafters who will make things for the less fortunate like hats and mufflers. This uses the yarn for two things, both helping people in need. So stop by where I am and help to feed local children.

Thanks and Blessings to you.

I wish you luck in achieving your goals, and hope that others are inspired to give back to others, as you are.
